Visitors do not plan their journeys around organisational boundaries
Southern Way is a collective of Regional Tourism Organisations across Otago and Southland. Its purpose is to encourage visitors to explore beyond a single destination and stay longer. The experience should also give them a reason to return with others. That ambition called for more than a directory of regional information. The website needed to help people understand how places connect and make a multi-region trip feel achievable.

Helping travellers see one connected south
Design around journeys, not regional boundaries
Travellers experience Otago and Southland as one connected journey. Organising the regional tourism website around routes and experiences makes trip planning feel more natural than asking visitors to understand organisational boundaries.
Turn travel inspiration into confident planning
Destination content creates interest, but practical pathways help people act on it. Southern Way connects regional inspiration with useful planning information so travellers can explore further and stay longer.

Mapping a more connected way to explore the south
We began with wireframes and prototypes that tested how travellers could move through the content. This made the visitor journey visible before detailed design began. The structure supports exploration across Otago and Southland without forcing users into separate regional silos. Clear pathways help people discover nearby experiences and consider a longer itinerary.

Designing a tourism platform that makes planning feel lighter
The finished website provides effortless access to the information visitors need when planning a trip through the region. Bespoke interface design gives Southern Way its own presence while keeping navigation familiar. Responsive behaviour ensures the experience remains useful when travellers research on mobile devices.
