Mamas In Lockdown Book Launch

This month we celebrated the launch of the 'Mamas In Lockdown' book at the Toitu Otago Settlers Museum.

The Mamas In Lockdown book is a compilation of 77 stories from mums all around New Zealand who were pregnant or gave birth during the Covid-19 pandemic and specifically during Level 4 lockdown. Each story contains specific and unique details of their journey, and all build awareness of the challenges and triumphs they faced during an unpredictable and life-changing time.

Some of the Firebrand team joined writer Denise Ives to celebrate the launch of the book, Mamas In Lockdown. With a room full of mums and their new babies we were welcomed with a karakia by mum, Arianna and heard stories from mums who had travelled from near and far to celebrate with Denise. There were laughs, hugs and even a few tears but the evening was the perfect way to acknowledge challenges and triumphs of everyone in the room.

Denise has worked tirelessly over the past few months, creating a platform for some many mums to tell their stories and this event was a commemoration of all she does for the birthing community. It was an honour to work with such a passionate person like Denise and we look forward to seeing where the book takes her next!
