AA Smartfuel are one of New Zealand’s most recognisable and successful loyalty programmes. Firebrand have worked with the team at AA Smartfuel for many years, so when they approached us to help them develop a Shopify app, we couldn’t wait to get started. ?
First came a heap of research, which uncovered the fact that with over 8500 Shopify stores based in New Zealand, AA Smartfuel were perfectly placed to give retailers an easy way to offer fuel discounts to their customers and increase their conversions.
Requirements wise; we knew the Shopify app had to be simple and easy to install for retailers, giving them the smoothest onboarding for their store and the best opportunity to bring this fantastic offer to their customers.
The Shopify app that the team at Firebrand developed puts a widget onto the retailer’s store in which customers can enter their AA Smartfuel card number and earn fuel discounts. The popup has a minimal footprint and appears before the customer checks out. Customers entering their card number earn 5c per litre off fuel for every $50 they spend at the store.
Retailers install the app through the Shopify app store and then register with AA Smartfuel. Once AA Smartfuel have approved the registration, the app works straightaway. There is very little setup required and the AA Smartfuel card number widget is available on the storefront. Retailers are taken through a quick and easy getting started section explaining how it works and have access to a dashboard giving them stats on how many AA Smartfuel transactions they’ve received and the total fuel discounts issued. Retailers are also given access to AA Smartfuel assets that can be used on the store to let customers know they can earn AA Smartfuel discounts by purchasing from them.
Partnering with AA Smartfuel will bring big advantages for retailers, as AA Smartfuel has over 2.8 million registered cardholders. For Shopify retailers, the new app makes it easy to get up and running and start increasing conversions.
