The Firebrand Otago Gold Rush team was chosen by coach Gavin Briggs in February 2020. But something happened between then and now that saw the longest pre-season training in Otago Girls Basketball history.
When the world returned to some sense of normal we saw our Gold Rush kick off a quick Schick 3X3 tournament in Invercargill. A fantastic event that really showed how tough the competition was and how we could battle with the best and even advance to the semi-finals.
Then the Sals 18in18 meant 18 games over 18 nights hosted in Auckland and being televised by Sky.
Our belief and strength had peoples heads turning and suddenly the Otago Gold Rush were a crowd favourite and had everybody talking.
Prize giving came around and even the judges agreed.

We made the semi-finals and just missed but we couldn't be prouder of how strong the professional the team played and the courage and determination.
