Southern Youth Development
Southern Youth Development (formerly The Malcam Charitable Trust) is an important initiative, and here at Firebrand we prioritise fostering youth development. Whether that be through the offering of Youth Internships or our ongoing relationship and support of Youth Employment Success. The rangatahi are our future and in order for that to continue being a focus within the Otago District.
Founded on the premise that young people can and do make a different, Southern Youth Development believes that resilience in young people is built through positive life experiences.
As a Youth Not for Profit agency, servicing the Otago region. SYD has 14 staff who support rangatahi over a range of services in the Dunedin, Clutha and Waitaki areas. All funds are put back into the trust to provide youth development programmes.
SYD uses activity-based learning, real-life scenarios and youth-led activities to be able to promote good life choices, goal setting and confidence building.
As part of our ongoing relationship with SYD, Firebrand facilitated the organisation's full rebrand and continues to provide support through ongoing engagement and, not to mention, participation in the annual Toss the Boss fundraising initiative at Forsyth Barr Stadium!
